This current series of work has come about through the use of a resist. It is extremely time consuming but allows for very unique results.

I used french furniture polish, made from shellac, as a resist. A rough description of the method I used can be found by clicking the button to the right. The resist used in this feature is shellac but the method is the same.
French polish doesn't require anything near the same drying time as shellac taking mere minutes. That said it may need a number of coats to insure it will not be worn away by the sponge. |
Some of my pieces are coloured using oxides added to the porcelain. For example: copper oxide, red iron oxide, manganese dioxide and vanadium pentoxide. Each one produces a different colour. The percentage used also had a great influence on the outcome.
